Spiritual care providers are increasingly confronted with the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare settings.
Questions arise about the role AI might play in care practices, patient–provider relationships, and ethical decision-making. At the same time, AI offers new tools for documentation, communication, and patient support that are rapidly becoming relevant the daily work of chaplains.
To discuss this emerging development, the AI + Spiritual Care Special Interest Group meets regularly to share knowledge, evaluate ongoing projects, and exchange perspectives across disciplines.
The group brings together chaplains, healthcare professionals, researchers, and ethicists to consider both the opportunities and risks of AI. Topics include clinical applications, boundary setting, training needs, governance, and the theological and ethical implications of delegating aspects of care to machines.
